Website Speed and SEO

Search engines are interested in the fact that users are satisfied with the search results. That’s possible only when the search results are relevant and accessible.

Imagine if there would be a lot of websites in SERPs that are unavailable or really slow. Users that often receive links to slow or completely unavailable websites will consider that the search engine is working poorly and has nothing better to offer.

Major search engines recommend webmasters to make websites faster. Back in 2009, Matt Cutts, a Google engineer, warned: in 2010 the website speed could be one of the SEO factors (source). The official Google Research blog noted that designers should think twice before adding features that could harm the speed of the website.

Now, Google has officially announced that website speed is one of the ranking factors (source). It’s not the main factor, but definitely not the last in importance. Webmasters should ensure that their sites are as fast as possible. Slow websites are less likely to get into the TOP 10 of Google’s SERP.
